Storm brings first substantial snowfall to western Maryland

GRANTSVILLE, Md. (AP) — The season’s first significant snowfall is coating the mountains of far western Maryland in white.

The National Weather Service says the storm Monday could drop 1 to 3 inches of powdery snow in the higher elevations of Garrett County. Flurries were also spotted around Baltimore and on the Eastern Shore.

State Highway Administration spokesman David Buck says moderate snowfall Monday morning is not sticking to Interstate 68 in western Maryland. He says no problems have been reported on side roads in the region.
