Garrett County Humane Society presents donation to animal shelter

OAKLAND — The Garrett County Humane Society recently donated dozens of new stainless steel buckets and bowls to the Garrett County Animal Shelter.

“Stainless steel has no pores to harbor bacteria (like plastic), are resistant to chewing, and don’t rust or stain,” said Lisa Baker, GCHS president. “The buckets are flat on one side so they can be secured against the kennel gates, where they can’t be tipped over and can be easily filled from the outside.”

The new buckets will also be used in the outside pad area and in all of the cat cages, she noted

‘Adorable Adoptables’ available at animal shelter

OAKLAND — Felines Star and Mr. Gray are still available at the Garrett County Animal Shelter. They were last week’s “Adorable Adoptables.”

Star is an older tabby who was given up by her owner.

“She is friendly, a good mouser, and has been spayed,” said Lisa Baker, Garrett County Humane Society president. “She would like to live in a quiet home.

Mr. Gray is a neutered male who was picked up as a stray on Crook’s Crest in Oakland.

“He likes to curl up in your lap,” Baker said.

‘Adorable Adoptables’ available at county animal shelter

OAKLAND — Among the “Adorable Adoptables” currently housed at the Garrett County Animal Shelter are four felines named Jack, Miss Kitty, Moe and Melissa.

Jack is a large neutered black and white male who was picked up as a stray in Oakland.

“Is he yours?” asked Lisa Baker, Garrett County Humane Society president.

Miss Kitty is an older spayed longhaired white feline who was given up by her owner.

Moe is a friendly 8-month-old male black stray.

“Melissa is a sweet brown tabby who had kittens of her own,” Baker said. “She also fostered some motherless kittens. Now she needs a home.”

‘Adorable Adoptables’ available at Garrett County Animal Shelter

OAKLAND — Numerous “Adorable Adoptable” felines are housed at the Garrett County Animal Shelter this week. They include Debbie, Jenny and Louise.

Debbie, who was given up by her owner, is white with black markings. She is friendly, according to Liz Gibbons, one of the shelter’s animal control officers.

She describes Jenny, a gray tabby who was found in Oakland, as being “very friendly, as well.”

Louise is a black and white tuxedo who was found along Gorman Road.

For more information about these and other cats, as well as dogs, at the shelter, persons are invited to call 301-334-3553.

Located along Oakland Sang Run Road, the county-operated facility is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

‘Adorable Adoptables’ are looking for new homes

OAKLAND — This week’s Adorable Adoptables are felines Kevin and Frani, currently housed at the Garrett County Animal Shelter.

Kevin is a gray, neutered male left behind when his owners moved. He would like to be the only cat in his new home, according to a Garrett County Humane Society volunteer.

Frani is a calico stray picked up in the Yough Mountain Resort area.

‘Adorable Adoptables’ available at county shelter

OAKLAND — Among the felines currently housed at the Garrett County Animal shelter are Milton, Molly, Munster and Minnie.

“Come and meet them,” said Lisa Baker, Garrett County Humane Society president. “They will rub their way into your heart.”

She said Milton is a lovable male Manx. Molly is a sweet female calico Manx and Munster is a neutered male who has a very loud meow. All three were left at the shelter after business hours, according to Baker.

Minnie is a pretty calico who was given up by her owner.

Persons are invited to call the shelter at 301-334-3553. Located along Oakland Sang Run Road, the county-operated facility is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Garrett County Humane Society is a nonprofit volunteer organization that has been helping abused, neglected and homeless animals since 1983. It is not affiliated with the Garrett County Animal Shelter.
