Area ski resorts open for winter season
Wisp, Seven Springs, Ski Roundtop, and Ski Liberty and Whitetail all opened Friday.
The people who run the ski resorts said the extreme cold and the combination of natural and man-made snow helps them create and maintain a solid snow base.
“The day after Thanksgiving is great for us, and we’ve done it two years in a row, so we’re really happy about that,” said Roundtop Mountain Resort spokesman Chris Dudding. “This probably happens once every five or six years, so having it happen two years in a row is great.”
The parking lot at Pennsylvania’s Ski Roundtop was packed Friday.

Capitol Cup Mountain Bike Race
DEEP CREEK LAKE, MD – Wisp Resort announces the Capitol Cup Mountain Bike Race to be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 4 – 5, 2014. Four race disciplines will define this race as an all-mountain challenge including downhill, enduro, dual track and pump track.
The Capitol Cup Mountain Bike Race will take place on a variety of terrain all over Wisp Mountain including Smooth Operator and High Roller downhill trails, BMX dual track and the two new pump tracks. One overall winner for the best combined time will be crowned on Sunday. Entry fee is $75 for amateur and pro class riders and includes a 3-day lift/trail pass. Nationally known bike trail builders, Racer’s Edge, will construct the courses and are recognized for creating challenging and spectator-friendly racing formats. The Monster Energy Team will provide three stunt and skills demonstrations by the Monster Energy Pro BMX Team, drink samples, prizes and giveaways from Monster Energy. Wisp Resort has received sponsor support from Monster Energy, Racers Edge, Gravity Soul, Wicked Wash and Dakine.

Race Up the Face – Worlds Hardest 400 meter race
Race up the Face
Participants will race up the black diamond slope, Face, at Wisp Resort. The race is 400 meters with a 124 meter (407ft) ascent. Awards are given to the fastest male and female, fastest male and female over 50, and the oldest & youngest participants. All participants finishing the race, forever have bragging rights for completing the World’s Hardest 400 meter race and receive a 2014 Race up the Face bumper sticker.
